The terminal at the Port of Suape (PE) will now handle grains and cereals, as well as sugar

After initially focusing its operations on sugar, Agrovia do Nordeste, an Odebrecht Transport company, received authorization to move other solid, plant-based bulk cargo in its terminal, which is located in the Port of Suape in Pernambuco state. The contractual amendment was signed by the Ministry of Transportation, the Brazilian Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) and the Port of Suape.

“Since the project was first structured, we have been planning to diversify our cargo profile. Initially, we will focus on imports of corn, barley and wheat,” said João Gualberto, director of Agrovia do Nordeste.

In the future, R$79 million is expected to be invested in building new silos with total capacity of 30,000 tons and equipment dedicated to moving grains and cereals.

In 2017, the terminal received five vessels and moved 51,569 tons of sugar. It received 2,718 trucks and stored 60,720 tons of sugar.

The terminal enabled a reduction in sugar loading time by receiving larger vessels with capacity for 35,000 tons of sugar sacks and 70,000 tons of other bulk products, twice as much as previous vessels.

    Agrovia do Nordeste in numbers:

    • ??Warehouse size: 10,800 m²
    • Quay length: 335 meters
    • Shiploader movement capacity: 2,300 tons per hour | 2,500 fifty-kilogram sacks per hour
