The Olmos Project has been creating new business opportunities and fostering development in Peru’s North by irrigating uncultivated land and generating electricity via hydropower.

One of the companies benefiting from the project is Agrovisión, a U.S. organization that owns 2,000 hectares in Olmos and Arena Verde (located a few kilometers from the polygon of new land) and that also is a part of a joint venture involving 500 hectares in Olmos with Frutera San Fernando (Frusan), a leading exporter of Chilean fruit.

To date, over 759 hectares have already been sowed with:

    435 ha of cranberry

    40 ha of asparagus

    14 ha of avocado

    270 ha of table grapes

In June, the planting of cranberry on another 50 ha will be completed.

Lot C5 has four reservoirs with 25,000 cubic meters each, while lot C6 has a reservoir with 60,000 cubic meters. There are four drilling wells in operation.

Agrovisión employs over 1,400 people from the region during harvest, with the cranberry harvest running from August to December, coinciding with the table grape harvest, which lasts from October to December.

Agrovísion produced a video showing part of the large investment and the effort it has been dedicating to advancing its agricultural project in Olmos.

“We’re all very proud to be involved in this project, which has been transforming Peru’s North region,” said Juan Carlos Urteaga, commercial manager of the Olmos Project.
