To showcase products developed with renewable raw materials and reinforce its closer relations with the Japanese market, Braskem participated in the international packaging fair Tokyo Pack, which was held in Tokyo from October 2 to 5. Braskem is Americas’ largest resin producer, with annual production of 20 million tons, which includes chemical products and basic petrochemicals.
In its first participation in the event, the company received visitors in a booth where it showcased products such as the I’m green™ Green Plastic, the first polyethylene from renewable source produced on an industrial scale in the world, and the I’m green™ EVA (vinyl acetate ethylene copolymers), also produced from sugarcane. Braskem’s product launches in its United States, Europe, Mexico and Brazil operations were also on show at the fair.
“Asia is becoming an important market for us, mainly in businesses involving Green PE, and Tokyo Pack was ideal for us to consolidate our presence in the packaging industry. We took the opportunity to present to the public our innovations in the development of resins from renewable sources and the recycling projects, through the Wecycle platform, showing that many of our innovation initiatives are guided by environmental issues and sustainable development,” said José Augusto Viveiro, Renewable Chemicals sales director at Braskem.
Braskem has been expanding its presence in the Asian market since 2010 and currently has Green PE businesses in countries such as Vietnam, China, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, India and Malaysia. Only in Japan, 366 supermarket chains distribute bags made of renewable polyethylene and over 40 products are composed of this resin, which is used in cosmetics, hygiene and cleaning, food packaging, among others.
During its visit to Tokyo, which will host the 2020 Paralympic Games, the company also showed its support to the Paralympic movement, which in Brazil happens through sponsorship to the Brazilian Paralympic movement.
