In order to ensure the correct disposal of electronic materials and encourage local micro-economies, the Suape Port Industrial Complex, on the southern coast of Pernambuco, started this August a government reverse logistics program. A collector for computers and mobile phones materials is installed at the base of the User Assistance Service of the Rota do Atlântico Concessionaire, supporter of the government initiative.

The materials collected will be taken to a shed in Vila Nova Tatuoca, in the surroundings of the road complex, where technicians will do the screening. In November, in safer conditions for Covid-19, Suape will select and train 30 young people from local communities to remanufacture the discarded equipment.

In the training, with certification, which will have theoretical and practical modules, the young people of the community will learn to identify, operate, handle and repair computer components, in addition to repairing equipment and software malfunctions. Entrepreneurship and environmental education classes will also be offered. The equipment manufactured by them will be returned to use, through donations to community centers, schools, associations and other non-profit organizations in the region.

“Suape is engaged in the implementation of a circular economy model, establishing the sustainability agendas in its territory of direct action. We are bringing communities and companies closer to the Complex, generating innovations, and jobs and income opportunities”, says the president of Suape, Leonardo Cerquinho. “The concessionaire can contribute to facilitate the engagement of companies, that already use our highway as a route for their fleets, thus facilitating the disposal at a central and strategic point of the industrial and port hub, where our service base is located”, Says the president of the Rota do Atlântico, Elias Lages.
